Summerlin has been built out village by village since around 1990, so equipment ages vary block to block. The earliest areas, including Sun City Summerlin, a 55-and-over community that opened at the end of the 1980s, have homes that have been through several air conditioners. Newer villages farther west have systems that are still fairly young. Higher elevation on the west side takes the edge off some summer nights, but daytime highs are still well over 100 degrees for months.
In Sun City Summerlin and other communities with many older residents, a broken AC in summer is a health risk, not an inconvenience. That is one reason we answer 24 hours a day.
